Don and I were honored to qualify for and attend the 16th Chambers of Commerce Group Insurance Plan National Advisors’ Conference in Winnipeg last week.

Over 500 advisors exclusively market the Chambers Plan across Canada. The top 100 producers are selected to attend, with criteria set around new business and client retention. This iteration of the conference was originally slated for 2020, but was postponed twice due to COVID-19.

We were treated to talks by Linda Edgecombe and CBC legend Terry O’Reilly, entertainment from hypnotist Wayne Lee, and rocked out with Canadian music icon Tom Cochrane. But most worthwhile was the opportunity to collaborate with our peers. Roundtable discussions allowed us to reflect on what’s working well and how to move forward after a challenging couple of years, and the various gatherings encouraged picking the brains of fellow advisors on marketing, succession planning and best practices.

Several attendees were visiting Johnston Group’s new Winnipeg head office for the first time. Seeing first hand where Chambers Plan, CINUP, and Maximum Benefit are administered was special. The building houses impressive technology, plenty of areas to collaborate, and there is a stark focus on employee health & wellness. Seeing how this multi-generation family business treats it’s team and partners was first-class, and left us feeling incredibly fortunate to work with an organization that’s been recognized as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies every year since 2001.
